The Problem:
An aging log cabin in Huntsville, Ontario had experienced significant settlement due to portions of the structure being supported on rock and sand. Over time, shifting conditions caused three exterior walls to settle, creating structural instability and uneven support throughout the building. Inspection also revealed deterioration in the main interior support beam and crawlspace conditions that could contribute to ongoing moisture-related damage. The homeowners needed a solution that would stabilize the cabin, correct as much settlement as safely possible, and improve the crawlspace for long-term durability and future use.

The Solution:
Supreme Basement Solutions stabilized the cabin by installing 11 helical piers along the affected exterior walls and attaching structural brackets to transfer the building load to stable bearing depths. Custom pressure-treated support extensions were added to improve load distribution, and the structure was carefully lifted approximately 3 to 4 inches where conditions allowed. To address interior structural concerns, three structural jacks were installed on new concrete footings beneath the deteriorated main beam. The crawlspace was improved by re-grading the soil and installing approximately 400 sq. ft. of crawlspace liner and Delta membrane to help manage moisture and protect the structure. Additional perimeter protection was installed to discourage wildlife intrusion and prepare the space for future insulation upgrades, creating a solid foundation for the homeowner’s long-term goal of converting the cabin into a studio space.
